Review: Monsters Vs. Aliens
Quick little review today on the big new Dreamworks 3D extravaganza, Monsters Vs. Aliens.
The film is a fun little film that walks the border of kids film and wittier, more adult animated feature. This was my chief problem with the film. When they obviously go for one arena or the other, they do it well. When a scene toes the line, it usually falters in some way.
The only other critique would be that the plot is ripe for giving us a challenging, interesting story. However, they air on the side of caution and want to appease the children, so they keep the story very basic and obvious.
All that said, the film is a bunch of fun. The 3D is really fantasic, and I can’t wait to see where Disney goes with this with Up. Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie and Will Arnett bring their own varieties of humor and charm to their voice roles and it lends a good hand to appealing to older audiences.
