My Life In Technicolor

Note: If you can be a badass with your pants that high, than kudos to you.
Review: Gran Torino
I’m gonna stop giving summaries of the films, its redundant; just the opinion is all you’re looking for anyway.
Well, Gran Torino, starring and directed by some guy named Clint Eastwood, is a film that knows it’s beginning and ending, but the in between makes no sense of how you got there. I swear to you, you will laugh WAY more than you will feel moved or anything of the sort. Parts such as Walt’s(Eastwood) continuous use of racial epithets is meant to be a shock laugh at first and then becomes a “crazy old man” kind of thing. However, the funniest parts, by far, have to be the close ups that happen at least 2 times that I counted, in which Walt is supposed to be REALLY angry; you will laugh…hard.
Two other important characters, Thao and Sue, along with all of the asian cast, are played by first time actors that Eastwood found while shooting in Detroit. It’s noticeable, especially in the beginning. It gets slightly better towards the end, but the “realistic” feel Eastwood intended for, just comes off as sloppy.
The best/funniest/worst thing about the film is that Eastwood plays up the fact that everyone thinks he is a total fucking badass…which he is. However, I think this film would have been much better served if the badass came out in doses instead of the film seething in it.
I didn’t hate the film, the story is interesting and Eastwood is funny in the parts that are supposed to be funny and heartfelt at the same. However, the films tone changes wildly from one scene to another and really I could do nothing but laugh at a lot of the things.
