Review: Alice in Wonderland

Many people have been critical of Tim Burton’s most recent films, but I can say I am a huge fan of his adaptation of Sweeney Todd and I absolutely love the magical Big Fish. That said, his newest work, Alice in Wonderland, a pseudo sequel/re-imagining of the classic tale is probably the lowest point of his career (one that includes his Planet of the Apes remake).
The entire film seems like it was made for 13-year old kids who weren’t alive for A Nightmare Before Christmas and needed a new film to buy shirts from at Hot Topic. There are no redeemable qualities throughout the entire picture, short of some interesting costume design, but as good as that is it is still at the heart of what is so easily hatable about this film.
The film is incredibly dross, with a paper-thin story and acting that is so cheesy and overdone you just want to punch Johnny Depp in the face by the end of the film. I could write more and more about what I hated about this movie, but I feel like I’d just be pummeling a dead horse.
