BBWAA Are A Bunch of Retards
**Edit: Though I stand by my above statement, because they really are, I did not remember that the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards are determined by the players and managers. I don’t think I’m breaking news to tell you that the vast majority of baseball players wouldn’t get a 1000 on the SAT, and yet they may be the smartest athletes compared to other team sports like the NBA.
What a fucking joke. What more does one man have to do to be recognized?
Be the best defensive 2nd baseman in the NL for 5 straight years? Done.
Be the best defensive player (out of all positions) in MLB over the last 3 years? Done.
Yet nothing. Derek Jeter has 4 Gold Gloves, Chase Utley has 0.
You wanna know how many of the top 5 defensive players from 2007-2009 won a GG in that time? 1. There should be at least 12 in there. If you want any reason why anything voted on by the BBWAA is truly ignorant of reality, there it is. Thats not even to mention the only player worth more than Chase since 2005? Albert Pujols.
From 2007-2009, here are the value of the top 10 players in baseball (in millions):
- Albert Pujols: 25.0 WAR $109.4
- Chase Utley: 23.7 WAR $103.2
- Hanley Ramirez: 20.8 WAR $91.0
- Joe Mauer: 20.0 WAR $86.3
- Alex Rodriguez: 20.0 WAR $86.3
- Matt Holliday: 19.8 WAR $85.8
- David Wright: 19.2 WAR $83.2
- Chipper Jones: 17.4 WAR $75.6
- Mark Teixeira: 15.7 WAR $69.1
- Dustin Pedroia: 15.6 WAR $68.8
Seriously Pujols and Utley could have been making over $33 million a year, and would be underpaid. Thats disturbing.
The difference is Pujols has 3 MVPs (assuming this year). Chase has none. Hell, he’s never been higher than 7th in the voting. Jimmy Rollins (17th) has 1. Ryan Howard, and his 12.4 WAR and $54.2M in value (27th in MLB), has an MVP and SOMEHOW finished 2nd last year.
Seriously, its a big group of fucktards that for some reason Will Carroll, Rob Neyer, and Keith Law associate with.
Here are my picks for 2009.
- NL MVP: Albert Pujols
- AL MVP: Joe Mauer
- NL Cy Young: Tim Lincecum
- AL Cy Young: Zach Greinke
- Defensive Player of the Year, NL: Ryan Zimmerman
- Defensive Player of the Year, AL: Franklin Gutierrez
- Breakthrough Player, NL: Pablo Sandoval
- Breakthrough Player, AL: Ben Zoberist
Okay, thats (probably) the last baseball blog of 2009. If there is some big news here and there, I’ll comment on it but look for more movie/tv/music articles and the continued 2000’s series for the rest of the year.
And for my small handful of Yankees fans reading this…congratulations.
