10 years ago today, Fight Club, was released.
Whether you like it or not (if you don’t love it, you’re a “retard”), it is easily one of the most influential films of the past 10 years.
Update: Dan has disputed the term influential, asking what has been influenced by Fight Club in the 10 years after.
In a technological way, think of the zoom in into the Starbucks cup in the trash can or in the opening scene; this was one of the first films to use that kind of technique and I can think of a good handful of movies, commercials, and music videos that have used that.
The editing techniques are highly original (very possible they have been used in previous films, but I don’t of any, don’t kill me if there are).
Now obviously the story is an adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s book of the same name, but that book, and the author, would rank high on many college aged students lists of favorite books or authors over the last decade. Maybe you don’t see the obvious influences, but my feeling is many of the writers, directors, etc. that have began their careers in the last decade, would point to Fight Club as having some impact on their work.
