A Few Baseball Notes
2009 will go down as one of the craziest years in baseball in the past decade. Slightly above average teams are playing way above their heads, teams that looked decent on paper are terrible, and some of the best players of the decade are having their best years. Let’s get into some of these stories.
MVP, Who Ya God?

What Joe Mauer has done this year is unprecedented. Never has a catcher been this good, especially from an overall value stand point. Hell, only 4 players ever have had a .380 average, with 25 homers through 120 games, and their names are Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Williams. If you wanna know who the most valuable player in baseball is, it’s Joe Mauer.
As for the best? I’ll still take the God that mans 1st in St. Louis, with Mauer, Utley, Ramirez, and of course The Freak rounding out the rest of the top tier.
Roy Who?

I really do have to bite my tounge in regards to my previous comments on Ruben Amaro. I still think the signing of Raul was a beautiful mistake, but it has only been 2/3 of the season, so it could turn out to be bad. But the ingenious Cliff Lee move, coupled with the signing of Pedro, has shown me he may have some idea what he is doing.
Cliff Lee has been the best pitcher in baseball since coming to Philly, and though I don’t think he will keep going at this pace, you gotta be happy with having a guy of this caliber on your team.
The Wild Wild West

The Dodgers had a 15 1/2 game lead on the Rockies on June 3rd. Yea.
The Wild Wild West Card

I just don’t understand how the Rangers are still in this. If you look at the expected wins, the Rays should be about 3 up, and couple that with the complete underachievement of the Red Sox, and you have a messed up Wild Card race that should go down to the wire.
