This morning I got up at noon, something that is usually a good thing, but on this day it was not. When I turned into the Finals of Wimbledon to see how badly Roger Federer beat up on Andy Roddick I was astounded to see them tied at 3-3 in the 5th set.
Now, I thought Roddick could have taken a set and made it competitive, but I don’t think anyone saw this coming. For the next hour and a half I saw probably the 2nd greatest tennis of my life. What may be more disturbing is what is widely held as the greatest match of all time, was last years final. A 5 hour epic 5 setter, where Rafael Nadal finally broke through and beat Federer at the Championships.
After 4 hours and 15 minutes, and a 30 game 5th set, Federer finally broke Roddick for the first time to take his record 15th career grand-slam singles title. It’s a shame someone had to lose this match, because Roddick deserved it just as much.
A big congratulations to Roger Federer, you are the greatest ever.
