Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley is my favorite song; has been since I first heard it when I was about 10 or 11. No matter how played out it gets on TV and movies, nothing has been able to match the beauty and emotion of it. When I listen to it, I just don’t believe Buckley didn’t write it; no one should be able to turn another person’s words into that kind of emotion.
Anyway, I rarely like other covers with the exception of Rufus Wainwright’s and think Leonard Cohen singing it is hilarious, so finding another one was a nice surprise. Brian Fallon, lead singer of The Gaslight Anthem brings a new perspective to the song, with a little bit of folk and a little bit of angst.

I don’t listen to the Gaslight Anthem, but now I gotta give them a peak. Also, tip of the hat to Steve Wacker for pointing this out.
