My Life In Technicolor

Review: Star Trek
To establish, I am not a Trekki. I don’t think I’ve ever watched an episode of Star Trek in my entire life, but I know at least the well known catch phrases and history of the series. I think that is the perfect way to go into this movie. It establishes a slight alternate history of the main characters, but it all intertwines and makes for a very satisfying interaction of “old” and “new” elements of the Star Trek Universe.
OK, getting past that, this film is fucking awesome. Star Trek is this year’s Iron Man. It takes a well known property and reinvents it and is a constant wild ride that never leaves you dissatisfied.
The action is fantastic, combining great combat, chase and epic scenes You will be enthralled just from that.
The acting is well done and the casting is brilliant. Chris Pine is exactly what you want from a young Kirk. Zachary Quinto as Spock is a perfect casting and he plays him with an internal emotion that plays perfectly opposite Pine’s attitude as Kirk.
Also, the film has a great sense of humor and spreads laughs throughout the film and intertwines fluidly with the flow of the movie.
J.J. Abrams proved to me with the unappreciated Mission Impossible: III that he can do a smart action movie, and with Star Trek he will finally get the credit he deserves as a director.
Go see this movie now, you will leave saying “That was……..AWESOME!”
Grade: A or ★★★★½
